La región y la sociedad judía de Galilea descrita en la obra menos difundida de Flavio Josefo –su autobiografía o Vita– nos revela que, previo al estallido de la rebelión contra el Imperio romano, la región de Galilea era un verdadero “Estado dentro de otro Estado”. En otras palabras, compartía un trasfondo étnico y religioso con el resto de la antigua Judea, pero difería en su desarrollo económico, urbanístico y cultural con el resto de las zonas del país. Ello fue debido, principalmente, por la relación histórica y particular que la región tuvo previamente durante el proceso de helenización y romanización de Galilea y con su respectivo desarrollo urbano. Todo lo anterior forjó un ámbito de contradicciones que desestabilizó la participación de Galilea en la rebelión contra el Imperio romano en el año 66 d. C.
